St. Catharines, ON - The Niagara River Lions announced today the re-signing of Daniel Waldin-Mullings, making this his third season with the club. The 6’3 guard from Toronto, Ontario is currently playing for the Klosterneuburg Dukes of the Austrian Basketball Superliga.

The River Lions captain averaged 7.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game during the 2021 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season, and was the recipient of the Ben Zwolak Community Ambassador Award.

At the conclusion of the 2021 CEBL campaign, Waldin-Mullings was one of seven River Lions players to sign an option letter which meant that he would be protected by the team from the start of free agency until March 2nd.

When free agency officially opened at the start of the month, it was an easy decision for Head Coach and Co-General Manager, Victor Raso and Head of Basketball Operations and Co-General Manager, Antwi Atuahene to bring Waldin-Mullings back to Niagara. “Daniel has been a phenomenal leader, on and off the court for the past few seasons,” said Atuahene. “He carries himself with a confidence that’s infectious to his teammates, and he plays a major part of our culture in Niagara. We are excited to continue to hunt together."

Waldin-Mullings brings a wealth of professional experience having played overseas in China, Germany, Finland, Israel, Belgium and now Austria. He brings energy, toughness, athleticism and competitiveness which has allowed him to excel on both ends of the floor.

Prior to Waldin-Mullings’ professional career, he played college basketball at NCAA Division 1, New Mexico State where he averaged 13.1 points, 2.7 assists over his four years with the Aggies. In his junior year he earned Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Year. Playing alongside now Toronto Raptor, Pascal Siakam in his senior year, Waldin-Mullings was named to the All WAC First Team and All WAC Defensive Team. He holds the record as New Mexico State University’s all-time leader in career steals with 249, and 4th all time leading scorer with 1677 career points.

“I’m excited to get back to Niagara this summer and join the River Lions once again,” said Waldin-Mullings. “Knowing the culture and the family setting that’s in place, I look forward to returning and getting our ultimate goal of winning a championship.”

The Niagara River Lions are one of the original six teams of the CEBL. Playing out of Meridian Centre in downtown St. Catharines, the River Lions represent the twelve municipalities of the Niagara Region while living up to the River Lions moniker of pride and strength of community.
