St. Catharines, ON – The Utah Jazz are set to announce that they are signing Xavier Sneed to a two-year, two-way NBA contract. This marks Sneed’s second NBA opportunity after completing a 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies in early January.

Since the conclusion of the 2021 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season, Sneed has spent most of his time playing for the Greensboro Swarm, the Charlotte Hornets NBA G League affiliate, except for the time spent with the Grizzlies.

The Kansas State alumni has played in 18 games with Swarm, averaging 11.39 points and 4.44 rebounds this season. During his time with the River Lions, Sneed lead the team in points (17.8) and was third in rebounds (4.7), before leaving to play for the Charlotte Hornets in NBA Summer League.

Sneed became the second River Lions player in history to sign an NBA contract after Javin DeLaurier signed a 10-day deal with the Milwaukee Bucks in December.

“Xavier is a prototype two-way player at the highest level,” said River Lions Head of Basketball Operations and Co-General Manager, Antwi Atuahene. “We have seen him expand his game with us throughout the summer and transfer those skills to the NBA. We are extremely proud and honoured to have been a part of his journey.”

The Jazz visit the Los Angeles Lakers tonight at 10:00pm (ET) and host the Dallas Mavericks on February 25th at 9:00pm (ET) after the NBA’s All-Star break.

The Niagara River Lions are one of the original six teams of the CEBL. Playing out of Meridian Centre in downtown St. Catharines, the River Lions represent the twelve municipalities of the Niagara Region while living up to the River Lions moniker of pride and strength of community.
