St. Catharines, Ontario – The Niagara River Lions announced today the 16 players that will report to the 2021 training camp presented by DEEP RELIEF® Pain Relief. Players will arrive on June 14th for medicals and testing, and begin practicing the next day. The camp is set to take place from June 15th to the 22nd at Walker Family YMCA St. Catharines & Ridley College, as well as strength and conditioning sessions at Iron Performance. After eight consecutive days of training, Head Coach and General Manager Victor Raso will select the final 12-man roster that will tip-off the Canadian Elite Basketball Le ague (CEBL) season in Ottawa on June 25th.

“We are very excited to bring this group into training camp and start working towards our goals,” said Raso. “We will use training camp to develop our base and fundamentals, which will give us the opportunity to reach our potential and achieve our goals. This group is hungry, and has high expectations for themselves, and we're excited to get to work with them.”

Returning core players include Guillaume Boucard, Kassius Robertson and Daniel Mullings who all spent the last several months playing overseas in France, Israel, and Spain, respectively. Emmanuel Owoo-toah from Brock University will also return to the team as the River Lions U SPORTS athlete.

Noticeably missing from the list of returnees is Trae Bell-Haynes who will be with Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team at their training camp in Tampa, Florida ahead of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying tournament in Victoria, BC set to take place at the end of June.

The River Lions welcome three new American players, Javin DeLaurier, Xavier Sneed and Tyree White who are all expected to make immediate an impact on the court. DeLaurier spent four years at Duke University where he served as co-captain for two years playing for one of the most storied programs in the NCAA. Sneed, a Kansas State University alumnus, will bring size, strength, and athleticism. White joins the team for his first professional contract and has incredible potential with his talent level.

Canadians Olu Ashaolu and Jaylen Babb-Harrison, who both bring several years of professional experience will join the team after playing for the Fraser Valley Bandits and Hamilton Honey Badgers during the 2020 CEBL Summer Series.

Rounding out the training camp roster is Ryan Richmond, Jake Babic, Julian Walker and Anthony Ottley Jr., along with reigning CEBL U SPORTS Player of the Year, Lloyd Pandi, and his Carleton Ravens teammate Grant Shephard.

Recently announced signee and five-time U SPORTS Champion Phil Scrubb is expected to join the team in mid- July once his season in France concludes.

All additions serve as improvements upon last year's team in athletic and defensive areas, while also contributing offensively. After an unexpected turnout at the 2020 CEBL Summer Series, Coach Raso and Assistant General Manager Antwi Atuahene have been tirelessly working to acquire exceptional players that align with the River Lions culture while addressing any weaknesses identified last summer.

The River Lions will tip off the 2021 CEBL season versus the Ottawa Blackjacks at TD Place on June 24th at 7:00pm. The game will be streamed on cbcsports.ca and the CBC Gem App.
