St. Catharines, ON – The Niagara River Lions announced today the signing of Canadian guard, Munis Tutu, presented by Deep Relief. The 25-year-old from Windsor, Ontario will join the team for the 2022 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season after most recently playing for Ehingen Urspring of the German Pro-A second division.

“Munis is a great young man and we're excited to welcome him to the River Lions,” said Head Coach & Co-General Manager, Victor Raso. “He is a talented and disruptive point guard who can lead a team and make life difficult for opposing players. He's a perfect fit for our team and organization and we're looking forward to having him this summer!”

Tutu began his collegiate career at Loyola Marymount College where he played for two years before transferring to Carleton University in 2017. Tutu was a key piece to the Ravens success, as he helped the team to two U SPORTS Championships and 3 OUA titles. Throughout his three years at Carleton, he averaged 10.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4 assists and 1.6 steals per game, and was named OUA Third Team All-Star in 2019-20.

A native of Cairo, Egypt, Tutu moved to Canada at nine-months old and has had the opportunity to represent Canada on several occasions including at the Commonwealth Games in Australia where he

averaged 10.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.0 steals, and was named a First Team All-Star for the tournament.

Tutu made his professional debut during the 2020 CEBL Summer Series, where he played 8 games for the Ottawa Blackjacks.

This past season, Tutu played for Ehingen Urspring in Germany where he averaged 16.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game.

Tutu joins Canadians Daniel Waldin-Mullings, Jake Babic, Jaylen Babb-Harrison, Olu Ashaolu, Phil Scrubb and Alonzo Walker.

“I'm excited and ready to get to work with the Niagara River Lions,” said Tutu. “Victor and I are familiar with each other, so I'm looking forward to getting coached by him and the other coaching staff. I think we have a good group coming in and once we are finally able to get on the court together, I believe that we will have the right chemistry to win a lot of games and win a championship.”

The Niagara River Lions are one of the original six teams of the CEBL. Playing out of Meridian Centre in downtown St. Catharines, the River Lions represent the twelve municipalities of the Niagara Region while living up to the River Lions moniker of pride and strength of community.
