St. Catharines, ON – The Niagara River Lions announced today that as a result of the province of Ontario moving into Step 3, fans will return to the Meridian Centre starting Saturday July 17th for all six remaining home games. Season ticket holders will have exclusive access for this Saturday’s game versus the Hamilton Honey Badgers, while the general public will be able to purchase tickets starting for Tuesday July 20th’s match-up. Tickets go on sale Friday July 16th at 10:00am.

In 2020, the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) was the first professional sports league in Canada to return to play after COVID-19 shut down the sports world, and now they are the first to welcome back fans to their seven venues across Canada.

“We are thrilled to be welcoming back fans to the Meridian Centre for the first time in fifteen months,” said Michelle Biskup, Vice President of Operations for the River Lions. “When the CEBL moved the 2021 season to start in June rather than May, it was to increase the odds of having fans in the stands and now here we are. We have been waiting for this moment just as much as our loyal fans have been, and we’re excited that we will have the opportunity to play in front of a home crowd this summer.”

The Niagara River Lions and Meridian Centre are working diligently to ensure a safe environment for fans.

Kay Meilleur, Director of Marketing for the Meridian Centre stated, “We are ready! Both from an excitement standpoint and more importantly from a safety perspective.” Meridian Centre is managed by ASM Global, the world’s leading venue management and services company, we have begun deploying VenueShield, a comprehensive and industry-leading reopening program. The protocols and procedures being activated are to ensure the safest return to events possible, providing the highest levels of safety, security and consumer confidence, in alignment with approvals from local government officials and health care experts.”

All fans will be required to complete a screening prior to entry and wear a mask inside the venue. Capacity will be limited to 1000 spectators. Further information will be available via the official spectator guide.

Tickets will be available for purchase on ticketmaster.ca or by phone (289-273-5905), email (tickets@riverlions.ca) or in person at the River Lions Front Office located at 2 Front Street North in Thorold.
