St. Catharines, ON - The Niagara River Lions played their final regular season game this past Sunday with an 83-79 win over the Hamilton Honey Badgers earning them a second-place finish heading into the 2022 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) playoffs.

With a regular season record of 13-7, the River Lions finished just one game behind the Honey Badgers (14-6) who secured first place and a bye to Championship Weekend at TD Place Arena in Ottawa from August 12-14. The River Lions will have to win the quarter finals on Saturday August 6th to advance to Championship Weekend.

While the River Lions finish in a position to host the quarter finals game, due to the Meridian Centre being unavailable during the 2022 Canada Summer Games, the River Lions will host the game at a neutral site, being the Sleeman Centre in Guelph. The opposing team will be determined after a pair of play-in games on Thursday August 4th, where Edmonton visits Saskatoon and Guelph visits Fraser Valley. The lower seed winner of the two games will match up with the River Lions on Saturday night, with the winner moving on to the semi-finals in Ottawa.

Tickets for Saturday night’s home game in Guelph are on sale now and can be purchased online, by calling or texting 289-273-5905 or by visiting 2 Front Street North in Thorold.

The Niagara River Lions are one of the original six teams of the CEBL. Playing out of Meridian Centre in downtown St. Catharines, the River Lions represent the twelve municipalities of the Niagara Region while living up to the River Lions moniker of pride and strength of community.
