Niagara River Lions Announce 2020 Theme Games

St. Catharines, ON - The Niagara River Lions of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday its 2020 theme game schedule, with special promotions happening at six of the ten home games. From honouring Niagara’s first responders, to having a nationally televised game, there is no shortage of excitement planned for the team’s second season in the CEBL.

Starting on May 7th, the Niagara River Lions will tip-off the season in their Home Opener presented by Meridian Credit Union , versus expansion franchise, the Ottawa BlackJacks. Fans can expect an electric and entertaining atmosphere as professional basketball returns to the Meridian Centre for the fifth season. Fans will receive 2020 magnet schedules presented by Meridian Credit Union upon exit of the game.

On June 19th, the River Lions will welcome students from across the region for a School Day Game hosted by children’s entertainer and motivational speaker, Saidat. The game will be focused on promoting a sense of community while showing students the importance of physical activity and healthy living.

On July 4th, the River Lions will put Niagara on the map as they host the Hamilton Honey Badgers for Niagara Day, which will be nationally broadcasted on CBC as part of the CEBL’s 3 year partnership with CBC Sports. The game will bring the Niagara Region together for a momentous day in which fans will show their pride for both the River Lions and Niagara. Pre-game outdoor festivities will be announced at a later date.

July 16th will mark Country Night as the reigning CEBL Champions, the Saskatchewan Rattlers visit the River Lions for a hoedown showdown. Fans can expect live performances, line dancing, country themed giveaways & more.

The River Lions will honour Niagara’s First Responders on July 25th for Hero’s Night presented by Temporary Personnel Solutions. The game will recognize the police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, urgent care workers and military that display bravery, hard work and commitment while putting their lives on the line for others.

The River Lions will close out the season at home on August 6th for Fan Appreciation Night.
