St. Catharines, ON – The Niagara River Lions announced today that Daniel Mullings from Toronto, Ontario has signed with the team for the 2020 season. Mullings, a 6’3 shooting guard, most recently played for Elitzur Yavne in the Israel National League where averaged 20.4 points, 2.8 assists and 3.6 steals per game.

“I couldn’t be happier that Daniel has chosen to join our team for this upcoming season,” said Head Coach and General Manager, Victor Raso. “Daniel instantly addresses the need to improve our ability to guard the ball on the perimeter as he will be one of the better on ball, and overall, defenders in our league. Offensively, Daniel is a playmaker who plays to his strengths, and can completely change a game with his ability to get to the rim and make plays. In addition to his physical abilities, he is selfless, competitive, and a great teammate – exactly the type of person we are trying to add to our program.”

Prior to playing professionally, Mullings played college basketball at NCAA Division 1, New Mexico State where he averaged 13.1 points, 2.7 assists over his four years with the Aggies. In his junior year he earned Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Year. Playing alongside now Toronto Raptor, Pascal Siakam in his senior year, Mullings was named to the All WAC First Team and All WAC Defensive Team. He holds the record as New Mexico State University’s all-time leader in career steals with 249, and 4th all time leading scorer with 1677 career points.

Following his collegiate career, Mullings went on to play for Medi-Bayreuth in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), Germany’s top tier basketball league. He then played through the summer season with the JiangHuai Lightning of the Chinese National Basketball League, followed by two seasons with Kataja Basket in the Finnish Korisliiga, Finland’s top professional league.

Mullings represented Canada during the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, helping the national team to a silver medal, but is looking forward to playing a full season close to home. “I would like to thank the River Lions organization for giving me this opportunity to be part of something special,” Mullings said. “I’m looking forward to going to war with this team every night and focusing on a championship run!”
The Niagara River Lions are scheduled to tip-off the season at home on May 7th versus expansion franchise, the Ottawa BlackJacks. Season tickets, voucher packs, “marquee matchup” packs, group and single game tickets are on sale now.
