25 year old Trae Bell-Haynes will return to the River Lions for a third season. Bell-Haynes is currently having the best season of his young career with the Hakro Merlins Crailsheum of the BBL, Germany's top tier basketball league. His success has earned him the title of Canada Basketball’s Player of the Week two times within one month.
Prior to Bell-Haynes professional career, he spent all four years of college basketball with the University of Vermont, NCAA Division 1 school earning several accolades along the way including being named the Player of the Year two times.
After concluding his college career, Bell-Haynes wasted no time amassing an impressive amount of pro basketball experience. Bell-Haynes spent the summer of 2018 playing for the Milwaukee Bucks Summer League team and went on to play for the Frankfurt Skyliners of the German Bundesliga Basketball League. Prior to signing with the River Lions in 2019, he played eight games with the Wisconsin Herd of the NBA G-League. In 2020 he played for the Helsinki Seagulls of the Finnish Korisliiga before the season was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bell-Haynes also suited up for the Senior Men’s National Team during the FIBA AmeriCup 2021 Qualifiers where he averaged 7.5 points and 4 assists in a series of games versus the Dominican Republic.
Trae is an exceptional athlete who has breakaway speed in the open floor and a knack for getting in the lane in the half court. Trae was a massive contributor to the River Lions in the past, and will be expected to lead the River Lions in 2021
